BYZANTINE Art Characteristics and Styles
The key city of art during Byzantium reign was Ravenna, where idols, panel paintings, and mosaics flourished. Most artists creations were focused on religious expression. The use of idols seemed to be a big debate causing the iconoclasm. Many paintings were turned back to a 2 dimensional way and showed a spiritual eminence than a human form. Barely any sculpture was produced.
